ABSTRACT
Water is turning out to be the most wanted and sought after resource. Dams are one of the most important structures which deal with the storing and using the full potential of water. This paper studies one of the weaknesses of Dam, “Seepage”. We in our paper explain the full might of seepage and its seriousness. We also present a case study on Kanjirapuzha Dam, located in Kerala. The dam is currently at its worst state in its 20 year life span. None of the canal system and its tributary is delivering its full design capacity. We then have put forward ways to immediately stop seepage. Of the many methods present we take into consideration Geosynthetic materials. This is used in the upstream face to prevent seepage in the dam. Usage of Geosynthetic materials decreases the seepage in the Dam. Thus increasing the efficiency of the Dam and its tributaries.
